Above

Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. – Colossians 3:1-4

Colossians is such a powerful book, filled with realities that are unbelievable if they were not written in the Bible. Realities so radically different from what the world tells us, counter belief to everything we know, that it calls for us to have a different mindset and heart posture to get a hold of them. Colossians unveils the truth of our existence, in a critical phrase: “Christ is our life” – a truth so unreachable to comprehend for the mind and heart, that will require us to position ourselves from a different perspective, above.

Above is where Christ is seated right now, at the right hand of the Father, seeing from the perspective of Heaven. He knows not only what is in front of us, but the very depth of our past and detours. He sees it all. Now, where are we? Our lives are now hidden in Christ: “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus” (Eph. 2:6). You read that right; we are now seated with Him in heavenly places! This is the reality of our spirit; though our souls and flesh live on earth, our spirit (who we truly are) is right now in a place above.

Above also means higher than everything we experience in this world. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Rom. 12:2). The problem with our minds is not only that they are finite; they are fallen. Our minds cannot comprehend the greatness of God, but our spirit can! That is why our minds must be renewed in the Word of God, so they can be aligned to the will of Heaven. Setting our minds and hearts on things above liberates us from the deceit and power of worldly passions and empowers us to experience the truth.

Above is where we belong. The life of Jesus is not just a story written in the Gospels, it is also the life of those who have chosen His righteousness. So, we must position ourselves in the place where we belong, to understand who we really are - the authority, power and honor we host, as our lives are hidden in Christ.
There are so many defeated Christians, who are going through all the hardships of this world on their own, because they lack the understanding of their identity.

Above must be the posture of our hearts. “You must no longer walk as the Gentiles do… alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart (Eph. 4:17-18). Beyond the mind exists the deepest root of a human, the heart, able to infect everything else.

May our hearts be submitted to the supremacy of God and honestly pray, “on earth as it is in Heaven”, so we can ever experience the life above, here.
